  Grasslands in Africa are called savannahs.

Savannahs are covered with tall grass.

There are not many trees.

Some of the grass grows as tall as a grown-up man!

  Grass is an important food for animals.

Zebras and elephants eat grass.

  Savannahs are hot and dry most of the time.

They are home to the world’s fastest animal – the cheetah;

 the world’s largest animal – the African elephant; and

the world’s tallest animal – the giraffe!

Useful tips!

  • Talk about different types of landscapes.

  • Try to explain the difference between the African savannah and the tropical rainforest. What animals live there? What is the climate like?
